Swirl Squares

My mom makes these all the time!

1/2 cup Hard margarine (or butter.), softened
1/2 cup Brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup Granulated sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 large egg
1 1/8 cups All-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. Baking soda
1/2 tsp. Salt
1/2 cup Chopped walnuts
1 cup Semi-sweet chocolate chips

Beat first 5 ingredients in a large bowl until light and creamy.
Combine the flour, soda, and salt in a small bowl.  Add it to the margarine mixture. Stir till smooth.
Add walnuts.  Stir.  Spread evenly in greased 9 by 9 inch (22 by 22 cm.) pan.
Scatter chips over top.  Bake in 375F (190C) oven for 1 to 2 minutes until chips are very soft.  Remove from oven.  Swirl knife through the batter to create marble effect.  Return to oven.  Bake for about 20 minutes until firm and wooden pick comes out clean.  Let stand in pan on wire rack until cool.  Cuts into about 36 squares.

Instead of taking it out to make the marble pattern, my mom melts some chocolate chips to lightly pour over top once baked

Lemming

- Lemmings always migrate in a straight direction, crossing anything in their path if they come to a river they jump in and swim across it . When they come to an ocean and jump in they can't swim across it, so they drown.
